Did I accidently give my password to a hacker?
In the middle of a quest "Defenders of the Forest," I'm fighting away and suddenly a box pops up and says that my password for this account has expired.
I quickly type in my password because I am busy fighting. Then my partner tells me that he hasn't had that happen to him and I may have just given my password to a hacker. Now I am afraid to log out in case as soon as I do, my account will be taken over. Can anyone tell me if this has happened to them? I don't really want to change my password but will if I must. I also don't want to log out until I understand what's going on. I have seen the game request my password for renewal when I was not in the game yet, but in the middle of a fight it seems like strange timing. |

I think you got disconnected and the box appeared so you can log in back. It's pretty handful... Oh, it appears only if you disconnect partially, so from Guild/friends list. So don't worry, you didn't gave password to a hacker.
Btw: Calling someone ,,idiot'' because he didn't know about something that couldn't be easly found on Wiki is rude as hell. |

Ok, so I took KillaKarl's suggestion because I still felt nervous anyway and because I could change my password in character select instead of logging out.
Well, when I tried to change my password, it said that my password was incorrect! I tried it several times and even entered it with caps lock on incase I had pressed it while playing. Anyway after several attempts it says that my original password is incorrect, so that I cannot actually change it. Now I am worried again. If I log out, I think that I will not be able to get back in due to the game not recognizing my own password. |

Well, if you still have your keys, then don't worry TO MUCH. You can always just contact Anet with all your info and keys and they can do alot with that.

You've given your password to ANet. Imo, turn off your computer. Get your passport. Catch the first flight to Spain and NEVER, EVER show your face in public again.
You're in trouble. :/ |

I am an older woman in my 30's and I am quite meticulous and careful in all things that I do. Perhaps I could be called 'overly cautious' but that's about it. As for, Mkilbride2599, you are correct, I have a key somewhere. I own more than one account so I probably have the keys mixed up, but it should be one of them. The problem is that if anyone got a hold of my account and deleted my characters, I would just die. So having my account gone for any amount of time would be too much for me. |

Yeah, I got screwed since I didn't keep my key, I had to re-buy all over again. I'm not even sure why my account went away in the first place, I just loged in one day to play and it said my account was unable to play GW, but I could log in...GW support told me they'd look into it, and since I didn't have my key, no go.

After you disconnect, and then reconnect, if you want to look at your friend list, you have to retype your password. No biggie. I don't think that's why your having problems.
But Anet can't restore deleted characters.

Also, just to note, a hacker wouldn't have to wait until you logged off to get into your account.
Anytime two people log onto the same account the first person gets kicked. |

I honestly don't think I will be able to ever play Guild Wars ever again if something has happened to my characters. I just bought my main character new armor that I was really proud of and I just got a mini pet bone dragon for her and just got Eye of the North recently. I think that this is too much for me to handle. |

Yay! While I was being all emotional, my husband fixed the problem somehow and everything is ok again. He's wonderful!
Also, thanks to everyone here who helped me out with your suggestions. We both didn't know what was going on. Fortunately, he was able to remain calm. Thanks a lot you guys! |

hacker phobia is certainly understandable and something for which I have no trouble feeling compassion... considering all the threads we've seen on this forum about hackers destroying players' work and time investments.

Since the OP has resolved her issue and the thread has reached a natural conclusion I think I'll close this one down.
